First Editing

24 Nov

After we finished the shooting with actors, we met together in Surrey’s team room and tried to edit our film together. We split up the whole film by different scenes and assigned different parts to each others. April was in charge of the meeting scene (park scene in the script) and parking lot scene; Cheryl took charge of intro sence, training montage 1, and montage 2; Christine was in charge of training montage 3 and 4, and Nick worked on the long dating sence.

We firstly watched through all video clips we are responsible for editing, found out the best one we thought, and decided the cutting and edited them together. We needed to  think over all angles transitions and camera movements to have a prefect and smooth image composition. After editing the video, we also needed to sync boom mic audio into the selected video clips to have a better sound quality. We listened to all the audio files to find the right one to match the selected video clips carefully. We needed to pay great attention to actors’ lip sync dialogue and reduce the background noise. After we finished our first editing separately, we watched through others’ part and gave some advises to improve the video composition.

During editing, we found out some problems to fix, and we searched the solution and learned them from the Internet. For example, sound volume is uneven from each video clips, and we learned to use the Adobe Audition to fix this problem. Moreover, we recorded the boom mic audio in mono mode, so we needed to change them into stereo. We used Adobe Premeire effect that called “Fill right” and “Fill left” to fix this problem as well.
